What is academic suspension?

Academic suspension, also known as academic dismissal, is a term used to describe a situation where a college or university student is temporarily or permanently suspended from their studies due to poor academic performance. Academic suspension is usually imposed when a student fails to maintain a minimum academic standard or fails to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress towards earning a degree. Universities and colleges often put students on academic suspension to ensure that they work harder and take responsibility for their academic success. Academic suspension generally varies between institutions, but it typically involves a period of time in which the student is not allowed to attend classes and is required to undergo certain educational interventions or academic coursework. After the period of suspension, the student may be required to apply for reinstatement and demonstrate that they are capable of achieving the academic standards that had previously not been met. If the student fails to meet the requirements for reinstatement, they may face academic dismissal which means they will no longer be allowed to attend the institution.
